Welcome to St. James!

St. James United Methodist Church believes that all generations are equally important and that there is much to be gained by sharing.  Therefore SJUMC offers many activities that are intergenerational.  Some of these include fellowship meals, church family picnics, and worship opportunities centered around the holidays.

St. James United Methodist Church believes that every Christian is called to do ministry and that an abundant life is one that is grounded in the precepts and mandates of our Lord.  It is the responsibility of the members of the community of faith known as St. James United Methodist Church, to nurture its members in personal stewardship and personal growth.  To that end St. James offers many classes, programs, fellowship groups, a prayer chain, Helping Hands Committee and a "We Care" list that is circulated during the Sunday School hour.

St. James supports many fine mission activities within the local community, state, and the world through finances, prayers and service.

We would like to extend to you an invitation to visit St. James UMC and hope you consider making it your home church.

Purpose Statement

Our purpose as St. James United Methodist Church is to be a community of believers who proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord and who recognize the new possibilities for life He gives.  These possibilities are realized in common growth in worship, study, and fellowship.  Our church seeks to meet its own needs through playing, working, laughing and crying, caring, and sharing with each other.  In so doing, we are able to respond to the "Good News of Christ" by reaching out into the community of Spartanburg and the world in discipleship, mission, and service.

Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it."

Mark 10:15 (NIV)
